Our Eco-Collab with SEEP: A Fresh Take on Green Cleaning

In this blog, we’ll dive deep into SEEP’s journey, uncover some surprising truths about traditional cleaning products, and learn how making the switch to eco-friendly alternatives can benefit both you and the planet. They also share some handy tips and hacks to maintain a sustainable household, making every cleaning task a breeze with SEEP’s beautifully designed, planet-friendly tools.

Now over to Seep:

Eco cleaning? No Sweat. Say hello to sustainable, everyday, essential products, otherwise known as Seep. We are the little company on a big mission to eliminate 1 billion plastic cleaning items from landfill by 2030. Our zero plastic, high-quality, natural tools exist to make things better in every way; a cleaner home, a healthier planet and happier humans.

How would you describe Seep in one word? Why?

Fresh. We design modern and effective plastic-free cleaning tools that look good in your kitchen. Our brand stands out from brown and green colours often associated with eco brands and our messaging is always light and approachable. We don’t just push sustainability, we want to create moments that feel good and enjoyable with cleaning tools that can fit seamlessly into anyone’s daily life.

What’s one surprising fact about cleaning products that people should know?

Many traditional cleaning tools like sponges and cloths are made from plastic or polyester that release micro plastic particles that can linger on surfaces and cause health problems. In fact, there has been an increase in research on the effects of microplastics on health. Even products labelled as ‘green’ or ‘natural’ can sometimes contain plastic materials, so it’s important to check labels to find truly eco-friendly and non-toxic options.

What is the biggest misconception about eco-friendly cleaning products?

The biggest misconception about eco-friendly cleaning products is that they are less effective than traditional products. However, eco-friendly products and natural materials have advanced significantly over the years and can clean just as well without the use of harmful materials and chemicals. In fact, 94% of our customers say our products work just as well as traditional alternatives.

Why should people avoid single-use plastic in cleaning products?

Globally, we spend over $20bn every year making our homes clean but most of the products we’re using are not clean for the planet. Traditional cleaning tools are made from virgin fossil-fuel derived materials like plastic and polyester, cannot be recycled and shed millions of microplastics during their (short) lifespan. Over 1 billion of these cleaning essentials are thrown away globally every year releasing microplastics and filling landfill. Beyond the environmental impact of this plastic pollution, the harm that microplastics causes on human life is now well documented.

Why should people switch to reusable and compostable cleaning products?

Our solution offers a sustainable alternative that is:

-Easy to Use - Our products are easy to maintain and they last longer. We share cleaning tips, maintenance advice and recycling/ composting information so that our products are easy to switch to. We work with our super engaged community to design and improve our products.

-Easy on the Planet - Seep products are plastic waste-free, compostable, lower carbon (and carbon neutral), made from renewable sources and longer-lasting.

-Easy on the Eye - Beautifully designed products that you can display with pride above the sink with appealing packaging and a brand that speaks to today's customer.

Do you have any tips or hacks for maintaining a sustainable household?

Every cleaning task in the home can be done in an eco-friendly way. It’s easy to turn to harsh chemicals for cleaning an oven, but this doesn’t need to be the case. Simply mix baking soda and water to create a thick paste and spread it on. Leave it over night to soak into the grime then scrub off using an eco sponge with scourer.

As we wrap up our deep dive into the world of eco-cleaning with SEEP, one thing is crystal clear: sustainable living isn’t just a trend—it’s a necessity. By making simple swaps like choosing SEEP’s plastic-free, compostable cleaning tools, you're not just keeping your home clean; you're contributing to a cleaner planet too.

Every action, no matter how small, adds up. Whether it's switching out those old plastic sponges for SEEP’s natural alternatives or embracing eco-friendly cleaning hacks, you're taking a step towards reducing waste, cutting down on microplastics, and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations. And let’s be honest—who doesn’t want a spotless home that also looks good and feels good to maintain?

At Salt of the Earth, we believe in partnering with brands that share our commitment to sustainability. SEEP is more than just a company—they’re a movement, aiming to eliminate 1 billion plastic cleaning tools from landfills by 2030. And with your help, we can all play a part in reaching that goal.

So why not start today? Make the switch, feel the difference, and join us in making every clean a green one. Because when it comes to caring for our planet, every little bit counts. 🌿
