Salt of the Earth is the brand name of Crystal Spring Consumer Division Ltd, a family-owned company making natural deodorants in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. The business launched in 1993 as Crystal Spring, selling the product now called Salt of the Earth Classic. The brand was renamed Salt of the Earth in 2008, while the company name remained. Same family, same Hampshire factory, same deodorant.
It is independent and family-owned. Sally bought the business in 2005, and her son Thomas took over in 2008 and still runs it. No conglomerates, no private equity, just a family in Hampshire who take underarms surprisingly seriously.
Sprays, roll-ons, sticks and balms are COSMOS Natural certified by the Soil Association and made with 100% natural-origin ingredients. Crystal deodorants contain potassium alum and sit outside COSMOS certification.
